There are several ways to embroider Japanese sashiko: either you embroider freehand or you use a piece of fabric that is already pre-printed with a traditional pattern. In the latter case, you simply work along the lines and get a beautifully even result.
The wonderful Hidamari Sashiko Cloths by the Japanese manufacturer Cosmo are 35x 70cm each, whereby the actual area to be embroidered measures 35cm x 35cm. At the end of the embroidery, the cloth is folded into a square with an edge length of 35cm and sewn wrong sides together. Now all you have to do is to turn the project and close the
opening. Of course you could also use the plain side for other purposes or embroider it freehand…
The design CIRCLE consists of touching circles with a diameter of 4,4cm and is available in the colours Green, Blue and Flax. You will need 15m of embroidery thread for this design.
Under the category Sashiko Supply you will find a variety of beautiful and useful things that you will need for your work.
Important note: Please do not pre-wash or steam iron the cloth, as the pattern was applied with chalk!
